Born in Reykjavik, Iceland, Olaf migrated to the United States in 1976 at age 25. Olaf has won many awards and is currently showing his work at Philip Hone Gallery in Honesdale Pennsylvania .His most recent solo exhibit was in the South Street Gallery in Waymart Pennsylvania in 2008.About the ArtistAlthough Olaf has decided a large part of his time to his Viking art, the artist also paints landscapes, locomotives, portraits, and still life as well. His style is expressionistic, utilizing broad strokes, with sometimes heavy impasto. Largely self taught, Olaf started drawing and painting early in elementary school in Iceland. As Olaf remembers, "that's the only thing I was any good at in school”. After arriving in the United States in 1976, Olaf took some time off from painting and drawing to start a family. Then, in 1980, Olaf began painting again while attending art classes and a workshop at Westwood College in Dallas Texas. Olaf later relocated to Pennsylvania in 1985 and has lived there with his family ever since. In the late '90s Olaf again took some lessons and suggestions from his good friend, the late Robert Rasley, to paint on 3/4" Birchwood panel.
